Guys and Dolls - A Synopsis

Set in a time when gambling in the form of "crap shooting"- throwing dice - was illegal . Nathan Detroit held "floating crap games", in order to delude the N.Y. Police Dept., where he had to find a venue for the game, in return for 10% of the stakes. At a time that Nathan is struggling to find a place for the game, a well known gangster appears threatening to shoot Nathan if there is no game.

By chance Sky Masterson arrives after a large blackjack win in Nevada on his way to his favourite haunt, El Cafe Cubana, Havana. Nathan bets Sky 1000 bucks that he couldn't take a doll named by Nathan to Havana with him. As the "Save A Soul Mission" enters Nathan names Sergeant Sister Sarah as that doll. Sky poses as a sinner and visits the mission . In order to get Sarah to go with him to Havana he agrees to get 12 sinners to attend the prayer meeting that she had called.

Whilst Sarah & Sky are in Havana, Sarahs grandfather scours the N.Y. streets for sinners, and while the Mission Hall is empty, Nathan moves his "crap game" in, only to be tipped of when Lieut. Brannigan from the N.Y. police dept. arrives. The game continues in the sewer where Sky catches up with them. Sky persuades everyone to shoot with him for 1000 bucks a piece if he loses and their attendance at a prayer meeting in he wins.

In the meantime, Nathans long suffering girlfriend, Adelaide, who is intent on curing him of his gambling overhears Benny telling Brannigan the guys he caught going to a crap game were actually going to Nathans bachelor party, as he was marrying Adelaide the next day. All her hopes are dashed when she finds Nathan and friends going to the mission to attend a prayer meeting.

Although Sarah has fallen in love with Sky she cannot see how she could marry a gambler. Sarah & Adelaide decide to marry their man today, and change them tomorrow!
